Early STEM Matters...

...which is why we assembled the Early Childhood STEM Working Group that includes scholars, policymakers, curriculum developers, and educators from around the United States who share a vision and goal for universal access to high-quality, developmentally appropriate STEM education for preschool children.

Our aim is to help guide discussion and change at a critical point in public discourse about the need for high-quality early childhood education. Our January 2017 report, entitled Early STEM Matters, describes four guiding principles that reflect our philosophy about early childhood and STEM education. It also offers six actionable recommendations for educational leaders, policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels, researchers, and funders.

Recommendations

The six recommendations for action, while embedding the guiding principles, target key steps for policy, practice, and research that will promote dramatic improvement in early STEM education. They are intended for school leaders and district decision-makers, policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels, researchers, and funders. Our aim is to help guide discussion and change at a critical point in public discourse about the need for high-quality early childhood education.
